Shop owner sells furnishings, ideas
Posted: April 6, 2007
When owner Kate Barrette filled her store, The Home Market, with bedding, fancy soaps and other home furnishings last summer, she didn't realize what else she eventually would be asked to sell.
Her ideas.
In recent months, some visitors to the Third Ward store, 222 E. Erie St., have been as interested in Barrette's decorating suggestions as they are in the candles, slipcovers and picture frames. To meet the need, Barrette began offering consultations in January on how to achieve the store's elegant modern/vintage look at home.
For a starting flat fee of $150, Barrette - the former director of retail sales for Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic - will visit your home and design a plan that blends together your taste and The Home Market look. If you choose to go with her plan, Barrette will guide you through the process and refer you to resources, including her in-house custom window treatment/slip cover seamstresses. If not, the $150 can be used for items in the store.
The Home Market is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Consultations are done by appointment.
